e-governanceUniversities in the city are now going hi-tech with introduction of various e-governance operations to transform the quality of services provided in the field of higher education.

Additional efforts are being taken to prevent fraud and misappropriation of funds so that schemes, grants, budgets and finances are managed effectively, as most of the institutions are linking their activities online. Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, director of Internal Quality Assessment Cell in Osmania University said that most of the varsities get funds as general development assistance. They are planning to register themselves with the dedicated e-scheme portal developed by UGC to keep a tab on disbursement of funds to various institutions.

Universities are trying to reduce paper work, enhance office efficiency, achieve transparency and speed up processing of proposals for funding with the move.

To keep an eye on incoming and outgoing funds, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) is set to introduce automated finance section. E Haribabu, vice chancellor of UoH said that currently their finance system is partially automated. Under the e-governance scheme, they are planning to have a fully-automated finance department to know the status of utilised funds. He further added that many students get fellowships through funding agencies apart from UGC. The e-governance system in place will help prevent misappropriation of funds.

The English and Foreign Language University (EFLU) is planning to establish an integrated management information system (MIS) to enhance efficiency and transparency in all processes, including admissions, examinations, students’ database, attendance, etc.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) is focusing more on implementing e-governance in its admissions and examinations sections. They will introduce the online verification of certificates from next academic year  to make process of verification easier.
