BITS Pilani Honored by ASSOCHAM

BITS Pilani has bagged ASSOCHAM National Excellence Award for ‘Best Use of ICT in Education’ by a University in India.
At the 8th ASSOCHAM Education Submit & National Excellence Awards 2015 function the award was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Ram Shankar Katheria, Minister of State for Human Resource Development (Higher Education).
BITS’s leadership in using ICT in BITSAT, ERP, TelePresence-based network of classrooms across its four campuses; its efforts to introduce electronic attendance system for students, and MOOC based courses have been recognized by this award. These are in addition to web based processing of more than 1.9 lakh applications for admissions to First Degree, Higher Degree, PHD programmes, faculty hiring, Moodle based LMS, and other traditional applications.
On behalf of the institute, the award was received by Prof R. K Mittal, Director, Special Projects, Prof. Rahul Banerjee, HOD and Chief, Software Development and Educational Technology Unit and Dr Sangeeta Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Science, BITS Pilani.
Recently, BITS Pilani has bagged the prestigious ‘Excellence in ICT integration’ award from Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) during the first ‘FICCI Higher Education Awards 2014’ ceremony.
The use of ICT in online BITSAT exam since 2005, ERP integration for academic and administrative functions since 2013, TelePresence based classrooms and conference facilities since 2013 and efforts to introduce e-Attendance and edX based MOOCs/SPOCs courses by BITS were recently recognized. This is not to mention the massive ICT infrastructure, portals and the various application services/software developed in-house and run for several years.
