Prof Aslam appointed as full time Vice Chancellor of IGNOU

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, in his capacity as the visitor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has appointed Prof Mohammad Aslam as the Vice Chancellor of the university. Prof Aslam has been appointed for the period of five years.
Prof Aslam is already functioning as acting VC of IGNOU from October, 2011 to July, 2012. Earlier he was Director, School of Continuing Education (SOCE), at IGNOU since January, 2009.
Prof Aslam is professor of Rural Development, SOCE, IGNOU since 1992 and has served as Director, National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education, IGNOU from 2006 to 2009 and also earlier as Director, SOCE, IGNOU from May 1998-May, 2001.
Prof M Aslam has rich and varied experience both at national and international from his 35 years career in the field, out of which he spent about 21 years as a professor at IGNOU.
Dr Aslam has also served as visiting faculty to 16 institutions in India and abroad. Dr. Aslam is Fellow of the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank. He has been consultant to various international/ UN bodies including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, UNDP.
