Non teaching staff gheraod VCs of five varsities in Jharkhand

Non-teaching staffs of all the five universities of Jharkhand gheraoed their respective varsity Vice-Chancellors demanding implementation of fifth and sixth pay commission and increasing the retirement age from 60 to 62.
Staff of five state universities Ranchi University (RU), Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU), Kolhan University, Sidho Kanhu Murmu University and Vinoba Bhave University are on an indefinite strike since February this year.
Around 1000 non-teaching staffs of RU gheraoed the VC’s chamber for more than four hours bringing all official work to a halt. “We gheraoed the VC’s chamber as part of our massive protest. He had assured us that he had submitted a detailed report of recruitment that the HRD asked for. The VC also gave us a copy of the report that was sent to the education department,” said chairman of Jharkhand Non-Teaching Staff Association (JNTSA) Shivji Tiwari.
He added that there are more than 3,500 employees who are not getting salary as per the fifth pay commission because their service records are not updated by the respective universities. At Vinoba Bhave University too VC’s office was gheraoed and no one was allowed to work. A dharna was staged at the NPU VC’s office. “Because of the gherao, work was badly affected,” said NPU VC Firoz Ahmad, reported Times of India.
