Allahabad Univ to disburse 6th pay commission arrears of professors
Allahabad University (AU) has decided to give salary of associate professors in accordance with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. The AU authorities are trying to ensure that all the beneficiaries get their salaries as per pay band-4 arrears, from the eligible date.
These teachers would be getting the arrears and the hiked salary from next month. In December 2012, varsity granted 37 teachers designation of associate professors instead of readers along with the better pay scale in accordance with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. However, prior to issuing this order, authorities failed to change the name and designation of posts held by the AU teachers, even as the instructions for the same has been send by the UGC after implementation of sixth pay commission report in 2009, the designation of lecturer and reader was not changed.
As per UGC guidelines, the designation of lecturer has to be changed to assistant professor and that of the readers should be called as associate professor. The UGC also set various pay bands for the two posts along with the set time frame.
Now these teachers, who were in the Pay Band-3 and getting 15100-37000 scale and a grade pay of 8000, will be paid in accordance with the pay band-4. They will hence draw a salary in the scale 37400-67000 along with a grade pay of 9000, reported Times of India.
