R B Lal appointed new president of AIU

Prof Rajendra B Lal, Vice Chancellor of Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHIATS, formerly known as Allahabad Agricultural Institute) has been elected as the new President of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

Prof Lal has been elected national President at the 87th annual meeting of AIU held at DDU Gorakhpur University. Prof Lal succeeds Prof S N Puri whose term ended this year.

AIU serves as an inter-university organisation and has 412 universities as members, including deemed universities, State Universities and Central universities.

Prof R B Lal did his bachelor and master’s degrees from Allahabad University and began his professional career as Agricultural Officer in a nationalised bank later joining Allahabad Agricultural Institute (AAI) as faculty.
