Presidency University (PU) which is facing severe cash crunch has decided to launch a campaign to seek funds from its huge network of alumni and corporate houses. PU is targeting to arrange a funding of Rs 200 crore by 2017.
The varsity will distribute flyers among its students and would put a message on its official website appealing for funds. The university has decided to involve its faculty members, students, alumni and other friends of the institution to spread the message by word of mouth.
Prof Malabika Sarkar, Vice Chancellor of the university said, “We have a target to get funds of Rs 200 crore by 2017 when we celebrate our bicentenary. We are hopeful that funds will come in because we are a unique institution having a rich heritage and good faculty.”
Prof Sarkar said that PU has already received generous donations of Rs 70 lakh from alumni and well-wishers; the State Government has also contributed Rs 6 crore to its kitty.
