Government spend on education hiked to 4% of GDP: Manmohan Singh

“We have increased the government expenditure on education from 3.3 per cent of (Gross Domestic Product) GDP to 4 per cent of it. To cater to the growing need of economy of our country we need to provide education and skill to our youth,” said Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, at the foundation laying ceremony of Ghani Khan Choudhary institute of Engineering and Technology (GKCIET).
“The fact is that without doing this we not be able to sustain our economic growth for long time. We are focusing on quality education in the higher education because we believe that not only maximum number of youth should have access to higher education but the education that they get should be world class,” the PM said.
“We have started National Skill Development which has a target of skilling 500 million people during 12 Five Year Plan (FYP) period,” he added.
