Panjab varsity spends 12.31 lakh on VC house; 3.41 lakh on ‘modular’ kitchen

Panjab University (PU) which is facing huge fund crunch has spent Rs 12.31 lakh on the renovation of Vice Chancellor’s residence, out of this, Rs 3.41 lakh was spent on on modular kitchen and wooden cabinets.
Prof Arun Kumar Grover was appointed to the post of Vice Chancellor last year in June. The information has been revealed in response to an RTI application filed by campus incharge of the Students’ Federation of India, Prabhpreet Singh.
“On the one hand the varsity authorities say that due to lack of funds, there is a need to hike fee, but on the other, they spend lakhs on just renovation. They are also contemplating increasing the mess charges,” said Singh.
Panjab University Staff Association (PUSA), President Deepak Kaushik said, “The condition of houses located in blocks A, B, C and D is dismal. Every time when we ask the executive engineer’s office to renovate them, they say the varsity has no money. Last year, renovation of only five per cent houses was done. Money should be spent equally,” reported
