Dr. Mohan Pal Singh
Noted educationist- Dr. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar has been appointed as the next Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu. Before the appointment, Ishar was Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar.
The Governor of Jammu and Kashmir- NN Vohra, who also is chancellor of Jammu University, appointed Prof Ishar as VC, in consultation with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah (Pro-Chancellor of the University), from among a panel of three persons recommended by a Search Committee headed by Professor G K Chadha, President, South Asian University, Delhi.
Prof Varun Sahni, the present Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, had completed his tenure on December 7, 2011, and had since then been awaiting the appointment of his successor.
Dr Ishar was born at Kathua district of Jammu on November 4, 1954. He secured second position in the Jammu University in the B Sc examination and was awarded Certificate of Merit for standing first in the M Sc (Chemistry) examination by the Jammu University.
During his M Sc scholarship he was the recipient of national scholarship of Government of India and did his Ph D from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
Dr. Ishar served as a Senior Scientific Officer in the Chemistry Department, IIT, Delhi (1987-90). Later, he joined as Reader and Founder Head, Department of Applied Chemistry (presently Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences) Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab in 1991. He has been serving in this University for the past over two decades.
Dr. Ishar has undertaken various research projects funded by different national agencies. He has 86 research publications and presented 43 research papers in the various national and international conferences and symposium.
