Prof Arun Grover: New VC for Panjab University

Prof Arun Kumar Grover, a senior professor of Mumbai based School of Natural Sciences, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research has been appointed as the new vice chancellor of the Panjab University. He has been appointed by President Hamid Ansari on recommendation of a panel constituted to search new VC. He would hold the post for a term of three years from the current vice chancellor Professor RC Sobti.
Hamid Ansari who is also the chancellor of the university had on February 9, 2012 constituted an expert committee with justice (retd.) Leila Seth as convenor and Dr P Rama Rao and ambassador IS Chadha as members to select three potential candidates for the post.
In all, nine contenders were interviewed by the three-member panel for the post of vice-chancellor. Among them were present vice-chancellor Prof RC Sobti. According to reports, others from the varsity included Dean University Instructions BS Brar, Dean of the Faculty of Arts BS Ghuman, Shelley Walia, retired professor of the Department of English, Dean of Research RK Kohli and Professor Dinesh Gupta of the University Business School.
