University of Delhi has again come into limelight with a surprising news that over 4,000 University Grants Commission (UGC) approved permanent teaching posts are lying vacant in the university departments. With so much of the delay in filling up of these posts, Delhi University Teachers’ Association has threatened to go on a mass strike. About 40 per cent teachers teaching in the various colleges are contractual teachers said association members.

As per the  president DUTA , Amar Deo Sharma, said that the VC , Dinesh Singh will be held responsible for any kind of teacher’s outburst if he continues with his autocracies. The university wants to squeeze the teaching work load and run the university with adhoc teachers, he added. To the height  of it, even the permanent teachers are being deprived of the benefits they are entitled to in the new service conditions.

The UGC through its various circulars starting February 2010 to April 2012 has asked all the Central University including DU to fill the teaching posts lying vacant. The DUTA has also threatened to go on a strike, if their demands are not met. Further, DUTA vice president Harish Khanna remarked that, the VC is only buying time from the teachers. The DUTA Executive will now meet and decide on its action plan to fight the autocracies of the VC, he added.
