India’s first meta-university is expected to start its functioning from January 2013. According to report, forms for Masters in Mathematical Education will be issued soon and entrance test for admissions will be scheduled to be held on December 2.

The process of admission for the meta-university course between Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia, Masters in Mathematical Education will begin on October 29. As per the letter by Delhi University Registrar Alka Sharma, the two-year programme will have around 20 seats. While the entrance test for the course has been scheduled for December 2, the session will start on January 3, 2013.

According to Madan Chaturvedi , Head of the Cluster Innovation Centre, after University Grant Commission (UGC) has given permission for the joint degree programme, the course could have begun in October. However, this would have meant that only students from Delhi University or Jamia would have applied for the course. Students from across the country can seek admission to the course.

In the meta-university course, each paper will carry a fixed number of credits. While some credits will be given for theoretical work, some will be for hands-on work that a student does as part of the paper. Also, the Cluster Innovation Centre and the Institute of Life Long Learning as well as Centre for Education will conduct the course in Delhi University. At Jamia, the AJK Mass Communication centre will conduct nine courses, he added.
