Jindal Aluminium Ltd (JAL) has donated a sum of Rs 100 crore to Bangalore University to set up Dr Sitaram Jindal School of Economics (earlier known as Bangalore School of Economics).

This donation was secured by Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof N Prabhu Dev after discussions with JAL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. S R Jindal.

Bangalore University will provide the required land in Jnana Bharathi Campus for construction of new Academic Building for the School. The school proposes to offer four-year B.S. Course similar to London School of Economics.

The project has an expected completion period of five years. The proposed School would be an autonomous body like the London School of Economics/Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. It might later go in for a Deemed University status too.

The study group with Vice Chancellor as Chairman and Mr Mohan Das Pai (former HR head of Infosys) as Co-Chairman has finalised the draft of the proposed School of Economics and the final report would be submitted to the Governor, Mr H R Bhardwaj, the chancellor of Bangalore University.
