Nalanda University revival project gets 1st donation – Made in China

After being in news for all the controversies for some time, an ambitious Nalanda University revival project got 1st boost in the form of funding from China. This funding will be utilized for the purpose of building a Chinese-type library.
Today Chinese ambassador to India, Zhang Yan formally handed over the cheque of USD 1 million to Nalanda University, Vice Chancellor, Gopa Sabharwal. Ealier while Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s visit to India in December 10, he made the commitment, for this funding to Nalanda University.
Yen told the reporters, “Nalanda University is under the reconstruction. Chinese government has donated one billion US dollars, to support the reconstruction of the Nalanda University,”
“I will visit the University and discuss with the chancellor or vice-chancellor, how two sides can cooperate with each other to make this project very successful work,” he added.
In the same function, the new logo of the proposed institution – that represents Asian interconnectivity and harmony between man and nature – was unveiled.
