Prof G Raghurama, Professor in the Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering at BITS Pilani has been appointed as the new Director of the Pilani campus of the Institute with effect from 16 April 2010. Having completed his MSc from IIT, Madras, Prof Raghurama did his PhD in Physics from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and joined BITS as a faculty member in 1987. He has been the Deputy Director (Academic) in the Institute since January 2007.
Prof Raghurama had held several senior positions in the Institute including Dean of Admissions and Placement and Dean of Faculty Division II. He led the team which implemented the online test BITSAT which remains a benchmark for computer based admission tests in India.
He teaches courses and guides research in the areas of Electronic Sciences, Communication Systems, Telecommunications and Networks and Software Engineering. Having published over 40 research papers in international and national journals and conferences, Prof Raghurama has supervised a number of doctoral candidates.
An awardee of a research grant from Nokia in 2000 and Faculty Champion Award from Microsoft in 2007, Prof Raghurama has represented BITS in several national forums. He is the Convener of the Task Force which prepared the Vision 2020 strategic plan for the Institute and he now plays an important role in its implementation.
